Manufacturing Engineer (Turbomachinery)
Scope and Responsibilities:
- Create manufacturing plans and detailed work instructions.
- Create, review, and improve manufacturing processes to meet hardware end item specifications.
- Design and develop tooling and maintain the fixture inventory control system
- Review engineering drawings and designs for cost effective manufacturability.
- Facilitate Lean activities independently or with the guidance of consultants to improve product work flow, scheduling visibility, and plant organization
- Communicate manufacturing plans and processes to internal and external customers.
- Support vendor selection process and act as technical interface to increase machine shop and secondary processing outsource capability
- Provide cost estimating for complex machined and welded assemblies either independently or with guidance from others.
- Work with the project team to ensure overall program quality, delivery and cost objectives are met.
- Perform as back-up to production and inventory control and purchasing departments.
- Perform as back-up to machine shop manager.
- Work effectively with Sales to help customers fully specify project requirements.
Position information:
The successful candidate for the Manufacturing Engineer (Turbomachinery) position will report directly to the Vice President Operations. He/she will be a key member of the Operations team and will support projects from inception to shipment, be responsible for the planning and execution phases of hardware fabrication and assembly, lead manufacturing initiatives such as value stream improvement and 5S, as well as perform tooling design and control, and cost estimating. The Manufacturing Engineer (Turbomachinery) will work across all areas of the business and must operate well in a matrix environment. This highly visible manufacturing member will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of stimulating and challenging projects across a variety of industries.
The Manufacturing Engineer (Turbomachinery) is a mid-level position with large growth opportunity. It requires experience in the metal manufacturing field, preferably with aerospace turbomachinery or similar rotating equipment.
This candidate will be an experienced and energetic manufacturing engineer with strong communications skills and the ability to work effectively with cross functional teams. The ideal candidate works well managing multiple projects/activities simultaneously and has the ability to apply advanced engineering principles and techniques to propose, direct, and integrate solutions to complex technical problems. The successful candidate must be able to lead by influence, able to effectively make decisions/direction when presented with multiple opinions, be well-organized and results-oriented.
